“Aspiring Quinnipiac University filmmakers will travel to France on a choice assignment this summer. Students will spend three weeks at the Nice campus of Paris’s Ecole Superieure de Realisation Audiovisuelle attending video production classes and writing, shooting and editing music videos. A jury of French professionals will critique the finished pieces set to classical music.

In its fourth year, the overseas project is the brainchild of professor Raymond Foery, who developed the program with the French institute. So far, 36 students have made the trip. The workload leaves little time to sightsee or bask on the French Riviera. Students will attend twice-daily video production workshops, take French lessons, attend evening meetings and work on their projects. Foery will divide the students into teams and give them the challenge of writing, shooting and editing a 4-minute music video.

Foery said the final product is not intended to be strictly a music video. “It is the use of music to create art. The music is intended to set a mood and to stimulate creative energies. The students will use it as an accompaniment to a series of images that produce a coherent visual statement.”
